The Central Carolina Athletic League was created in the fall of 2006 by athletic directors of small schools looking for their basketball teams to have a place to call home. The first year of CCAL play in 2006-07 had 8 boy's teams and 6 girl's teams and concluded with a successful conference tournament in February of 2007. The CCAL expanded in May, 2007 to now field 10 boy's basketball teams and 8 girl's basketball teams. A full round-robin schedule will be played for the first time in 2007-08.
